21 March - 6 April 1997 13th National Competition Art Students Display Their Works With the exhibition Art Students display their works, the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle offers for the third time an opportunity for young artists in the Federal Republic of Germany to present themselves in public. It is intended to create a forum for comparison and to stimulate discussion, whilst providing the general public an insight into current work being done at art schools in Germany. The purpose of this competition, which the Federal Ministry for Education, Science, Research and Technology holds every two years, is to promote the work of young artists. In addition, the competition sets out to display the quality and diversity of education in the fine arts and draw attention to the importance of artistic activity in society. 42 students, of which two each are chosen from the 21 colleges represented in the Conference of Deans and Rectors of Art Colleges, Academies and Universities, have submitted work which will be judged by a three-person jury. The Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe and the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne will participate in this competition for the first time.
