The art collection of the German Bundestag was established in the late 1960s to furnish the new House of Deputies with high-quality graphic art. The Bundestag’s move to Berlin now provides an occasion to give the people of Bonn an insight into this surprisingly diverse collection before its departure. Printed graphics, the “democratic“ fine-art medium, form the centre of this exhibition. From a total collection of approx. 2,000, about 100 works from Willi Baumeister to Georg Baselitz have been selected to provide an overview of the graphic output of German artists from 1945 to the present day. The arrangement of the exhibition in five sections reflects the main areas of the collection: works from the immediate post-war era, non-objective art, colour field painting and op-art in the 1960s. Recent purchases have taken greater account of originals on canvas and paper, with increasing emphasis on works by artists from the new Länder. The final section of the exhibition reflects this development.
