The exhibition will show about 30 paintings and drawings by the French artist who alludes in his works to masterpieces by famous colleagues. During the creation of his “copies“, Raffray sought the proximity of artists such as Picasso, Duchamp, Seurat, Cézanne and Mondrian, visiting the places where they created major works of modern art.

Raffray succeeds in creating the perfect illusion of the copied work. On closer inspection, however, the brushwork cannot be identified as that of the other artist but bears Raffray’s personal handwriting. At the centre of his work is the distance from the original which distinguishes him fundamentally from an art forger. The highlights of the exhibition are the sketches for Le Grand Verre by Marcel Duchamp, the Demoiselles d’Avignon by Pablo Picasso and La Musique by Henri Matisse. Raffray unites these totally different works through his unmistakeable technique which makes his work unique.
