Art from Austria 1896-1996

Austria will be 1,000 years old in 1996. To mark this occasion, the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle will show a representational cross-section of Austrian pictorial art of the past 100 years. On display will be nearly 400 paintings, sculptures, graphic art and drawings as well as architectural designs, architectural models and some examples from the new media.

The most important phases in the development of Austrian art will be portrayed by exemplary works divided into seven sections.

The Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, built to a design by Gustav Peichl and thus itself representing the largest exhibit here, is predestined to contain the exhibition Art from Austria. Gustav Peichl has also designed this exhibition and demonstrates in an exemplary manner how his rooms can be utilized.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a program of literary and musical events as well as films.

In addition to the daily guided tours and a workshop program, the Educational Service also offers special guided tours for senior citizens, seminars with adult education institutes and, as information for visitors, a crossword puzzle "100 thoughts on Austrian Art".
