Architecture remains a figurehead of Austrian culture. Designs and models by the most significant Austrian architects constitute a special section of the exhibition.
Otto Wagner, Joseph Maria Olbrich and Josef Hoffmann helped define Art Nouveau with their buildings. Adolf Loos was a pioneer of modern architecture. And also in the last few decades, Austria gave important stimulus to architecture. Hans Hollein, Coop-Himmelblau and Gustav Peichl, to name just three, are in constant international demand and are repeatedly included among the prize-winners at prestigious competitions.
The Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, built to a design by Gustav Peichl and thus itself representing the largest exhibit here, is predestined to contain the exhibition Art from Austria. Gustav Peichl has also designed this exhibition and demonstrates in an exemplary manner how his rooms can be utilized.
