"TROY
- Virtual Reality"
In cooperation with Prof. Kormann's archaeology team from the
University of Tübingen and supported by the Federal Ministry for Education
and Research, ART + COM Berlin has for the first time produced a large-formatted
computer reconstruction of Troy.
A fascinating travel in time through the nine different settlement periods
of this legendary city has now become possible due to the most modern virtual
reality technology.
This varied 3D real-time visualizations system is supported by satellite
data, military and archaeological maps.
The digital site model encompasses an area of 400 km², integrating more
than 2000 highly detailed historic buildings, fortresses, rivers and even
coastal lines, which can be viewed in various degrees of resolution, from
a bird's-eye or on-the-ground perspective.
It is possible to take a virtual tour of imposing buildings or receive a
glimpse of the every-day life of the city's population. A special person-machine
interface allows each visitor to take an individually determined tour of
the city's various eras.
Original objects from the archaeological site on view in the exhibition
have also been included in this reconstruction.
