Overview: Discussions Workshops Film Music Gala

Discussions June 27 through June 29 daily 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Auditorium, KunstMuseum Bonn Meeting of European Film and Music Schools - Applied Composition in the Media: New Job Profiles and Training Models in Europe Over a period of three days the meeting will be discussing training facilities and training models in Europe for traditional film music composition, composition for TV productions and music for multimedia. Guests will include representatives of over 20 European colleges of music and film schools. Lecturers and students from the various departments will present examples of their work, report on their practical experiences and assess their training. The symposium will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date survey of the training models in the fields of sound design and film music composition in Europe. The symposium will be presented by Larry Sider, the new head of the Nat. School Beaconsfield and initiator of the "School of Sound". For accredited visitors only! Tuesday, June 25 6 p.m. Auditorium, KunstMuseum Film and music in the New Iranian Cinema On the occasion of the opening of exhibition We are the mirror and the Mirrored, too.New Iranian Cinema at the ifa-gallerie, film and music experts will be discussing the extrordanary audio-visual quality of Iranian films. Invited are: Mohmmad Reza Aligholi, composer ( Nargess, 1992, Pedar, 1996 and others); Paul Hertel, composer (recipient of the prize of the Fajr International Film Festival); Sharif Lotfi, composer and head of the School of Music, Teheran; Majid Majidi, director ( The Color of Paradise, 1999 and others); Ahman Pejman, composer (The Actor, 1993 and others); Manfred Vosz, director, professor at the University of Kassel, and curator of the exhibition; Hassan Yektapanah, director (Djomeh, 2000 and others). 8 p.m. ifa-gallerie Opening of the exhibition: We are the mirror and the Mirrored, too. Friday, June 28, 2 p.m. Auditorium, KunstMuseum Bonn Film Music pros and cons With Andreas Dresen (director of Halbe Treppe etc.), Tom Tykwer (director of Heaven etc.), Tilo Medek (composer), Luca Lombardi (composer and Eisler expert), Johannes C. Gall (musicologist); Presenter: Klaus Jungheinrich (music editor with the Frankfurter Rundschau) Composing for the Films, the standard work by Hanns Eisler, first appeared in New York in 1947. With the critical approach to the classic Hollywood film adopted by its composer and his co author (only to be revealed later as Theodor W. Adorno) the book has never gone out of date. On the contrary, as it transpires the esthetic and dramaturgical positions it adopts are surprisingly relevant today. This discussion of the two authors' theories could help encourage participants to rethink the artistic possibilities arising from the relationship of shared work between image and sound and, at the same time, to reconsider the innovative developments in audio-visual interaction since the middle of the last century.
