International Prize for Film and Media Music Gala

Presenter: Catherine Ann Berger

The highlight of the 2002 International Film Music Biennial's program is a gala evening. Celebrities from the world of films, music and politics will be congregating on Bonn's Museum Square to honor the prizewinners. On the musical program will be such artists as Berlin cult band "17 Hippies" and US singing star Jocelyn B. Smith. There will be endowed prizes for the up-and-coming generation of artists, presented by the sponsors from the film business. VIVA presenter Janin Reichardt will be awarding the prize for the best soundtrack song on behalf of VIVA viewers; the patrons of the event will be presenting this year's International Prize for the best recent feature film music and the Erich Wolfgang Korngold Prize. This honorary award is being presented for the third time within the framework of the International Film Music Biennial Bonn for an artist's life time achievement. The recipient of this year's award will be Mikis Theodorakis. The IFMB will thus be honoring a composer whose extensive opus represents an excellent example of the message advanced by an art that transcends the deep rift between elitist "isolated" contemporary music and more accessible popular culture. The prize is additionally awarded in recognition of the fact that Theodorakis' artistic and cultural commitment as a composer was always inspired by his political views and his great human integrity.

The gala evening will be presented by Chaterine Ann Berger, presenter and editor of the 3sat magazine "Kulturzeit".

Only a limited supply of tickets is available to the general public.

Admission: € 75.- (advance bookings only, plus advanced booking charge)
